Printing Serials Routing Slips in JWF

If you are creating a list of names to which a periodical will be routed, first be sure each person who will be on the list has a library card and that the option to "Allow routing" has been checked in the Basic Info tab of their User Record. You can check this routing option using the Modify User wizard.

Once you've set these names for the routing list in the Serials Control record, you need to set the printing options in the properties of the Check In wizard in the Java Client.

Right click on the Check In wizard. Click on Properties. In the Behavior tab, there should be a check mark next to the entry for "Print Routing Lists for Received Issues." Note that these words appear on a raised bar. Click on the raised bar to open the window shown below on the right.

Click on the gadgets next to each element that you wish to add to your routing list. In the illustration above, the gadget labeled 2 opens the third option screen from which you can select information you wish to have associated with the user listed on the routing slip. In the example provided here, only the NAME of the user has been chosen to display on the routing list along with the periodical title, date it was received, and free text header and footer information.

Using Copy and Paste Feature in the Call Number and Item Maintenance Wizard in JWF

You can copy and paste bibliographic information while using the Call Number and Item Maintenance wizard. However this is possible only if you retrieve a hitlist display. You can copy and paste from the bibliographic record when that record is still in the description viewer display that appears as the lower part of the hitlist display. That view is shown below.

Select a title off the hitlist and view it's description. If your library uses Dewey classification, highlight the 082 call number (without the subfield 2; its display is the 22 shown above). Click on EDIT (in the upper left corner of the JWF window) and click on Copy.

Click the Modify button at the bottom of the window.

With the Call Number/Item tab open, paste the call number from the bibliographic record into your library's call number datawell. (Click EDIT again and select Paste to add the call number.)

What you can't do from the Call Number/Item Maintenance wizard is copy and paste from a bibliographic record if you retrieve that record directly without first pulling it from a hitlist. Or if you pull it from a hitlist and then click on the Modify button before you try to copy and paste, it is no longer possible to do so. Once the record is in the Modify mode in this wizard, you can't highlight anything in the bibliographic record to copy and paste from it.

Note:
CTRL C also can be used as the Copy function.
CTRL V also can be used as the Paste function.

Using the Classic Theme in JWF

If you are using a smaller monitor (less than 20 inches wide) with the Java Client, the screen can appear crowded with too many toolbars and wizard options when using the Themes views. As shown below, the Java Themes display with all the toolbar functions at the top of the screen so it is easier to move from one function to another. In the Themes view, wizards of the selected toolbar display down the left side of the window begining with Common Tasks as shown here. However this view can make it difficult to work in JWF when viewing it on smaller monitors. A change in the way you view Workflows can make the Java Client easier to use. If you select the Classic Theme the screen will display the wizards in much the same fashion as they appear in the C Client where you have more empty screen space in which to open multiple windows and move windows around.

To change the Themes view, click on Preference > Desktop > Desktop Setup to access the window that provides the options that will make this setup change possible.

Select the Classic view from the drop down menu next to Themes as shown below. Click OK.
**You must log out and back into Workflows to activate this change.**

Above is the Classic view of a customized toolbar. It includes wizards for cataloging, serials, acquisitions, and circulation. The description of each wizard’s function is provided only in the balloon help you see when the cursor is on the wizard.

By creating a customized toolbar it is not necessary to right click at the end of the toolbar to select a different toolbar to move from one set of tasks to another.

If you don’t wish to create a customized toolbar, right click at the end of the toolbar and click on the option to "Select current toolbar" as shown below. This results in a drop down list from which you can select the toolbar you wish to use. The wizards of the new toolbar will display just as they do when using the C Client.

Note: If you do wish to create a customized toolbar consult WYLD Technote "Create a customized toolbar" found at http://will.state.wy.us/wyld/technotes/#java listed alphabetically under the section of technotes for Java Client Workflows.

Having Multiple Wizards Open at One Time in JWF

This is a setting that is controlled at each workstation.

Click on Preference > Desktop > Desktop Setup
Click on the box next to the option: Multiple windows mode
Click the OK button.

Logout of JWF.

When you log back in, the word Window will now display in the menu options at the top of the screen.

When you have multiple wizards open, you can click on this Window menu option to see which wizard is the active one being displayed (it has a checkmark next to it) and what other wizards you have open as well.

By clicking on one of the other wizards that display when "Active" is highlighted, you can easily move from one wizard to another so that a previously opened wizard can be selected to be the current active one on your screen.

Note, too, that you can select an option in which to view the wizards you have open. If you wish to see multiple wizards on the screen at the same time, you may want to tile them or you may wish to select another option that works better for you.
